Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. –
Brandon Dooley (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) and
Maurice Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS) each drove in a pair of runs, but it wasn't enough as the Lincoln University baseball team dropped a 9-5 decision to Saint Augustine's College to give the Falcons the CIAA series on Sunday afternoon at Buffaloe Road Park.
Saint Augustine's jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second and third innings. The Falcons extended the advantage to 5-0 with a run in the fourth, but Lincoln (1-4 overall, 1-2 CIAA) cut the margin to 5-4 in the top of the fifth by plating four runs on three hits and took advantage of a pair of errors.
Morris opened the frame and reached on an error. He moved to second when Cicali was hit by a pitch. Donald, who was 2-for-5, followed and reached on an error to load the bases with no outs. With one down, Anderson singled to bring in Morris and Dooley, who went 2-for-2, followed with a base hit to right to score Cicali and Donald. Still with one out, Brown, who went 2-for-2, singled to left to plate Anderson. However, Evans, who went 1-for-4, bounced in a double play to end the Lincoln threat.
The Lions added a run in the seventh to tie the game at 5 as
David Christian (Inglewood, Calif./Alta Loma HS) singled with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brown doubled with two outs to score Christian.
The Falcons broke the 5-all tie with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to get the win.
Kyle Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Seton Hill HS) took the loss for the Lions as he pitched six innings. Brooks gave up six runs on 10 hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts.
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) and
Devin Legins (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) pitched in relief.
David Nelson earned the win for Saint Augustine's. He scattered three hits, walked two and fanned four in four innings. Jere Wilkins and Claren Ganus worked in relief.
Lincoln doesn't get much time off as the Lions are back in action 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 13 at Felician College.
