Chowan spoils Lincoln's Senior Night

Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University women's basketball team couldn't rally late as the Lady Lions saw their two-game CIAA Northern Division win streak snap as Chowan spoiled senior night with a win on Thursday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.

“We were flat from start to finish,” Lincoln head coach Jessica Kern said. “Statistically we should have won the basketball game. You have to be able to play up and stay up. We took a step back and I feel bad for my seniors because this is not how you want to play your last game at home.”

Denyse Moore (Hampton, Va./Woodside HS) and Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS) each had 12 points to pace Lincoln. Moore also added a team-high nine rebounds as the Lady Lions shot 30 percent (18-of-60).

The Lady Lions (7-18 overall, 3-10 CIAA, 3-4 CIAA Northern) raced out to a 19-7 advantage after a jumper by Krystal Fluellen (New York, N.Y./Richard Green HS) with 8:36 remaining in the opening half. However, the Lady Hawks rallied with a 13-3 run and cut the deficit to 22-20 after a Janelle Murphy 3-pointer with 2:47 left.

Lincoln took a four-point advantage, 24-20, into the break.

The Lady Hawks (9-14, 4-9, 2-5) opened the second half on a 19-6 run to take a 39-30 advantage after a Ransheda Jennings free throw. The Lady Lions rallied and cut the deficit to 54-53 after a Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) free throw with 2:29 remaining, but that would be as close as Lincoln would get.

Jennings led Chowan with 15 points as the Lady Hawks were 17-of-59 from the floor for 29 percent.

Prior to the game Lincoln honored seniors Synae Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter HS) and Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS).
