Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University women's basketball team had three players in double figures, but couldn't hold off Central State University on Wednesday night as the Lady Lions fell, 65-62, at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS), who had seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal, and
Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) each had 15 points to pace Lincoln (3-6).
Brittney Waters (Capitol Heights, Md./Charles H. Flowers) scored 10 points and
Mfon Ekanem (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers HS) had a game-high 15 rebounds as the Lady Lions were 22-of-72 shooting for 31 percent.
The Lady Lions opened the game on a 11-0 and held the Lady Marauders scoreless for nearly the first six minutes, but Central State (9-3) was resilient and rallied to tie the game at 23 after a Shakeira Lang 3-pointer with 2:27 remaining.
Lincoln ended the half strong and took a 29-28 advantage into the break.
Central State erased the one-point deficit by out-scoring Lincoln, 9-2, to begin the second half. The Lady Lions refused to go away and grabbed a 42-38 advantage after a McIntosh free throw with 11:52 remaining.
The Lady Marauders took their largest lead of the night, 52-46, with 7:31 left on a 3-pointer by Aryelle Covington, but the Lady Lions quickly reeled them back and tied the game at 54 after a three-point play by McIntosh with 5:27 remaining.
Central State pushed the margin back to three at 59-56 after a Lang jumper with 2:54 left, but again Lincoln rallied and tied the game at 61 after a Johnson bucket with 34 seconds remaining.
A layup by Tanja Beasley gave Central State a 63-61 lead and
Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) had a chance to tie after being fouled with three seconds left. Saunders went 1-of-2 from the line and Lang sank a pair with two seconds left to give the Lady Marauders the win.
Covington paced Central State with 22 points and nine rebounds. Beasley finished with 14 boards and Ashlee Spencer had 10 rebounds as the Lady Marauders shot 31 percent (22-of-70).
Lincoln concludes nonconference play at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 30 with a home game at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium against Concordia (N.Y.) College. To follow the action through live stats,
