Lincoln can't slow hot-shooting Johnson C. Smith

Box Score
LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University men's basketball team couldn't cool down a hot-shooting Johnson C. Smith University team as the Lions fell, 80-63, on Monday night in a CIAA contest at Manuel Rivero Hall.

“We didn't play to our best potential,” Lincoln head coach John Hill said. “We have to back to the drawing board and work on the things we did wrong tonight.”

Kenny Sharpe (Chester, Pa./Elite Academy) led Lincoln with 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) and Jai Kellman (Brooklyn, N.Y./George Westinghouse HS) poured in 11 each as the Lions (6-8 overall, 1-2 CIAA) were 24-of-57 from the field for 42 percent.

Johnson C. Smith (7-6, 2-1) didn't misfire early as the Golden Bulls hit 10-of their first 11 shots in building a 26-14 lead and gook a 41-29 advantage into the break.

The Lions cut the margin to 45-39 after a Jackson jumper with 17:02 remaining, but that was as close as Lincoln would get.

Trevin Parks and Phillip Wood each had 20 points and Delonta Boyd chipped in with 10 as Johnson C. Smith, which shot 71 percent in the first half, was 32-of-53 from the floor for 60 percent.

Lincoln concludes its three-game home stand 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12 against Fayetteville State at Manuel Rivero Hall in a CIAA contest.
