MURFREESBORO, N.C. (March 4, 2011) — The bats of the Lincoln University baseball team continue to be silenced by the pitching staffs of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, this time with Chowan's (7-9, 4-0 CIAA) arms doing the damage.
The Lions (0-8, 0-8 CIAA) dropped both games of a doubleheader, 10-1 and 9-0. The lone run came in the first game on a sac fly by Alexander Donald (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) scoring Marquise Hudson (Piscataway N.J./Piscataway HS), who had opened the fourth inning with a single.
On the day, the Lions mustered four hits, two coming in each game. Hudson led LU with a pair of singles, one in each game. Freshman catcher Steve Talmo (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) had Lincoln's lone extra base hit a double.
Game one
In the first game, the Hawks scored three in the first with all the runs coming on a three-run homer by Ryan Moore. They tacked on four more in the second to assume control.
Kyle Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Seton Hill HS) took the loss, allowing just 12 hits and eight runs, seven earned in five innings.
Game two
Game two proved to be much more of a pitcher's duel in the early going. Freshman Demetrius Morris held Chowan to just two hits in the first two innings, but CU's bats adjusted the second time through the order. The first two three batters reached, but a throwing error by Omar Cham (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) scored two. CU added two more in the frame by way of a Colby Wiggins ground-out.
Morris allowed eight hits and eight runs, seven earned over five innings for the loss.
