DOVER, Del.  (March 29, 2011) — The Lincoln University baseball team could not parlay its new-found mojo into an improbable upset Tuesday afternoon.

Just days removed from a program-defining win over Shaw University on Saturday, the Lions lost both games of its doubleheader to Delaware State University, 28-0 and 10-1, at Soldier Field.

The doubleheader marked LU's first games outside of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). The lack of familiarity combined with DSU's Division I-talent contributed to the lop-sided scores.

The Lions' (3-15, 3-13 CIAA) lone run came in the bottom of the second inning of game two when senior infielder Omar Cham (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) singled in first baseman Alexander Donald (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS).

In that game, the Lions successfully avoided the big inning by never surrendering more than four runs in a frame. Instead, the Hornets (11-14) used one run in the first, four in the second, two in the third and three in the sixth  to pull away late.

Up Next

Lincoln hopes to capitalize on the season's most rigorous test shortly. The Lions host Virginia State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Oxford Area high School in a return to CIAA action.
