LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. (February 12, 2011) — Denzel Mooney (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology) carried Lincoln in Saturday night's men's basketball game versus Bowie State University. With 30 total points, the junior guard put his all into the high-energy game in Manuel Rivero Hall. This, however, was not enough to help the Lions defeat the Bulldogs, 83-62.
This was Mooney's fourth game with at least 30 points including his second in the last week. He now has 13 games with at least 20 points this season.
With Lincoln tying the game 7-7 within the first five minutes and trailing closely behind in the first half, it seemed like it was anyone's game. However, after Lincoln trailed at halftime 36-25, the Bulldogs (19-4, 13-2 CIAA, 8-1 North) were able to maintain the lead throughout the second half.
With eight field goals, five three pointers, and nine free throws, Mooney played a very aggressive game, making up almost half of the team's total points. Eugene Smith (West Palm Beach, Fl/PennWood ) added three field goals and three free throws for nine total points.
However, Smith nor Mooney could lead the Lions (2-20, 1-13 CIAA, 1-7 North) to victory, mostly because of Bowie State's big man Travis Hyman. Tallying a career-high 32 points behind 12-of-18 shooting, he also was monster on the defensive end. Seven blocks and 16 rebounds kept the rest of the Lions' cast in check much of the night.
