LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – As the student-athletes wrapped up the end of the year and end of semester with finals, they took a break to wrap gifts donated for the Angel Tree program. For the second year in a row Lincoln University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee members worked as hard as Santa's Elves to organize the donating of Christmas Presents for the Angel Tree Program sponsored by the Community Youth and Women's Alliance (CYWA) in Coatesville, PA. The Angel Tree program provides donated gifts to children affiliated with CYWA for Christmas.
Each team adopted children from the angel tree program whose ages ranged from 2 months to 13 years old. The students donated items off the children's wish list for Christmas such as: coats, clothes, dolls, educational toys, bikes, video games, etc.
“With all that we are blessed with, it's easy to forget those less fortunate. In participating in this program our student-athletes remember to put others before themselves and giving is just as fun as receiving. It's also a joy to see and hear the excitement our student-athletes and staff have when wrapping the gifts and the stories they share of their Christmas gifts from the past.”
The athletic department staff also participated in the Angel Tree program with the adoption of four additional children ages 2 months to 1 year olds. The staff donated items such as: diapers, wipes, clothes, educational toys, first aid kits and more. All together Lincoln University Athletics was able to provide Christmas gifts for over 20 children in the Coatesville community.
The CYWA offers a homeless shelter and an in-house drug and alcohol program for women and children, also a case management program to move families to a higher level of self-sufficiency. The Family Center provides services related to Child Development and Education, such as GED tutoring, fund distribution, housing developments, health education, and the Coatesville Day Care Center.
