LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Lincoln's attempt to take back the lead after relinquishing a one-run advantage in the seventh left ended with the tying run at the plate Saturday as the LU baseball team fell to Virginia State, 9-7, in game one of a doubleheader.
Melvin Robinson (Bear, DE/William Penn) (Bear, DE, William Penn) led Lincoln (2-19)with a 2-for-2 game at the plate with two RBIs and two walks in the loss. In game two, he would tie his own program record with his fourth homer of the season.
Andrew Holt paced VSU (18-14) with three RBIs in the opener, all of which coming on a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning that saw the Trojans take the lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, Brooks redeemed himself by leading off with a single, and LU tallied two runs, but Phillip Tomsic (Bangor, Mich./Bangor HS) (Bangor, MI, Bangor) hit into a fielders' choice to end the game.
Brooks (0-2) took the loss, pitching one inning and allowing four runs.
In the second game of the twin bill, VSU scored four in the first and three in the second and third innings, establishing momentum they would not relinquish in a 16-5 win.
Offensively, Robinson led the way again with a two-run homer that twisted around the foul pole for his fourth on the year, tying his own program record with homers in a season.
Tomsic took the loss, falling to 0-6 in his freshman campaign.
