Wilmington powers to sweep

Game One Box
Game Two Box

WILMINGTON, Del. —
The Wildcats of Wilmington University (17-4) took little time to pounce on LU pitching in its sweep of Lincoln University at Wilson Field.

Perhaps LU's biggest highlight went to Jamie Taylor (Nottingham, PA/Oxford Area) (Nottingham, PA, Oxford Area) who collected his first career hit when he broke up a no hitter in game two with a rope to left center in the top of the fifth inning off of Anthony Cimabue.

"It's nice to get back into it," said Taylor of his first-career hit. He said he was aware he had broken up the no-hit bid, because prior to the effort, the Lions were determined to do so.

An eight-run first inning in game one off Lincoln (2-17) starter Maurice Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS) (Harrisburg, PA, Harrisburg) paced WU for a 25-0 game while a six-run first against Alexander Donald (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) (Los Angeles, CA, Dorsey) in game two resulted in a 19-1 contest.

Lincoln's run in the second game came in the sixth off of a RBI groundout by Aaron Thomas (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) (Oxford, PA, Oxford Area) scored Phillip Tomsic (Bangor, Mich./Bangor HS) (Bangor, MI, Bangor) after an oppose-field double to right center by Melvin Robinson (Bear, DE/William Penn) (Bear, DE, William Penn) advanced Tomsic to third.

It was Thomas' seventh RBI of the season, who had moved to catcher for the doubleheader.

"Aaron displayed a lot of heart today catching both games of a doubleheader like that," coach Anthony Pla said.

The Wildcats totaled five homers.

For Robinson, a junior, the game served as a reunion for former teammates at William Penn.

"I remember some of those guys from back in high school, and they couldn't even hit the ball," Robinson said. "Now, they're hitting homers. It's good to see guys grow."

Lincoln hosts Virginia State on Saturday with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
