LAWRENCEVILLE, Va. — Led by a 4-for-5 effort by Marquise Hudson (Piscataway N.J./Piscataway HS) that included his first collegiate home run, the Lincoln University baseball team (1-7) earned a split by dominating the second game of the doubleheader, 15-6. The game-two victory was Lincoln's first win of 2010.
Lincoln was within outs of recording a sweep when a single up the middle allowed the Tigers to take the first game, 14-13.
Overall, Hudson was 6-for-10 on the day.
“I made contact with the ball and put it in play,” he said.
Game One
In a thrilling ball game right up to the end, Travis Worthington knocked in Linwood Vaughn with a single up the middle in the seventh for a 14-13 SPC victory.
Hudson went two for five with an RBI and a run scored, and Alejandro Rosario (Doradas, Puerto Rico/) hit 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base. Melvin Robinson (Bear, DE/William Penn) had a double with an RBI and three runs scored.
Phil Tomsic took the loss.
Game Two
Hudson had a two-run home run in the fifth for his first blast since his junior year of high school. Overall, he went 4-for-5 with a double, a dinger, a stolen base and three runs scored.
“It was exciting. I haven't hit a home run in a while,” Hudson said of his feat.
Rosario went two for two with three walks, four runs scored and a stolen base, while Robinson continued his stellar hitting with a 3-for-4 game that included two runs scored and two RBIs.
Peter Reyes (Bronx, NY/Enviornmental Studies) got the victory and Kyle Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Seton Hill HS) picked up the save.
