Balanced effort shows promise in loss

Denzel Mooney played hte role of catalyst off the bench.
RICHMOND, Va. — Lincoln's most balanced effort came up painfully short Monday night at Barco-Stevens Hall, falling to Virginia Union, 82-79.

Damian Hyman (Bronx N.Y./Harry S. Truman) paced LU once more with 18 points, but there were five other players with 10 or more points. Denzel Mooney (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology) (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology) and Darren Clark (Boston, MA/Largo) (Boston, Mass./Largo, Md.) each had 12. Eugene Smith (West Palm Beach, Fl/PennWood ) led LU post players with 11, while guards Dante Blanton-Holcombe (Baltimore, MD/Dunbar) (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) and Ladaye Johnson (Wilmington, DE/Hodgson Vo-Tech) (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) contributed 10.

"We played really well tonight," sixth-year head coach Garfield Yuille said. "Denzel played really well off the bench, and Ladaye had another good game."

Johnson had 22 points Saturday against Elizabeth City State.

Lincoln led 37-35 at the intermission thanks to 7-of-15 shooting from beyond the arc, but in the second half, a 3-of-12 clip allowed the Panthers to crawl into the game, which turned into a see-saw affair.

It's almost a statistical impossibility. Lincoln has lost five games by five points or less and dropped three three additional overtime contests. LU has won just one of those games, a two-point victory over the University of the Sciences on Dec. 3.
