Bowie, Md. — The Lady Lions defeated Elizabeth City State Saturday at the Lady Bulldog Invitational hosted by Bowie State University in a 765-621 match.
Freshman Tamia Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa./City Charter HS) made her debut with a 176 as LU's record goes to 6-19 on the year after going 1-4 at the highly competitive meet.
Overall, coach Timothy Lewis was pleased. He brought eight girls on the trip, and the deep roster allowed him to rotate girls in and out to keep them at their best through the rigors of a five-match day.
Against ECSU, LU was very balanced en route to its best output for the day.Lamontez Grant (Camden, NJ/Camden County Tech) rolled a 179 for Lincoln. Nia Zellars (Cincinnati, OH/Withrow University) had a 139, Stacy-Ann Smart had a 136, and Shalisa Bethea (Newark, N.J./Saint Vincent Academy) scored a 135.
In the opening match against the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Smart's day-high 193 was not enough as LU lost, 1073-713.
Against Coppin State in the second match, Smart bowled an LU high of 123, but the Division I school proved too deep in a 714-612 contest.
Dania McCarthy (Bronx, NY/Walton) paced LU against Penn State-Altoona with a 139. The tight match, though, went Altoona's way, 667-613.
Davis made her debut against Saint Peter's with a 182, and Tahirah Stewart (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore) offered her best output with a 168, but those efforts could not compensate Saint Peter's 934 pins as LU totaled 683.
In the days' final match, Lincoln got the 765-621 win over ECSU.
Sunday, Lincoln competes in Day Two of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.
