Shorthanded volleyball team drops pair in West Virginia

ELKINS, W. Va. (September 5, 2008) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions on the first day of the Davis & Elkins Senator Spikefest tournament Friday afternoon.

Lincoln (1-5 overall) lost to Bluefield State (W.Va.) and the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown. Bluefield State defeated Lincoln, 25-19, 26-24, 25-22. Pitt.-Johnstown clipped the Lady Lions, 25-20, 25-18, 25-9. The Lady Lions played with just the minimum of six players in both games.

Despite not having any substitutions, Lincoln battled Bluefield State tough and almost pulled off an amazing rally in the third game. Trailing, 22-10, in the third game, Lincoln displayed plenty of heart, character and resolve in throwing a scare into Bluefield State.

Senior Lindsey Wilson (Aliquippa, PA/Aliquippa) finished with a season-high eight kills and three service aces against Bluefield State. Senior Donneisha Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Harold S. Vincent) added six kills, eight digs and three service aces. Sophomore Lia Hubbard (Farrell, PA/Farrell) recorded 15 assists. Senior Jordean Matthews (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) had three blocks and three digs. Sophomore Raisa Jones (Philadelphia, PA/Masterman) had five digs.
