Coach Anwar King comes to Lincoln University, with over 20 years of experience as a basketball coach and professional athlete. Coach King began his coaching career in 2006 at Globe Institute of Technology (NY). During his two years with the team, he led the program to two 20-win seasons and back-to-back regional championships. Other coaching stops for King include ASA College (NY), Prestige Prep Academy, and County College of Morris. During his time at County College of Morris, Coach King helped 10 players move on to NCAA Division 1 programs. King moved on to Olympus Prep Academy in 2019, where he coached over 20 student-athletes who received athletic scholarships.
King founded Quality Academy Prep in 2020. Quality Academy won over 75 games in 3 years. Quality Academy was the conference runner-up twice and also reached the National Prep Championship semifinals on two occasions during his time there. Coach King joined the staff at Rutgers University-Newark in 2022, where he played an instrumental role in one of the school's best starts in history. He has served as Head Coach for The Culture/LIDS Annual Rumph Classic, Brooklyn United, Prestige Prep, Kings Unlimited, NJ Panthers, The Firm, and Philly Pride. King has coached notable players such as Dymon Lynn (who broke Steph Curry’s NCAA 3pt shooting record), Cario Brown, Truck Bryant, Bilal Dixon, Patrick Jackson, Abraham Kroma, Elon Howard, and many more professional athletes.
Anwar King played basketball at Linden High School, Piscataway Vo-Tech, and Willingboro High School under the guidance of three legendary coaches (Phil Colicchio, Karl Towns Sr., and Paul Collins). At Linden, King was a member of the first Group 4 Championship that Coach Colicchio won. At Piscataway Vo-Tech, he was a member of the only Group 1 state championship team in school history. King attended Community College of Baltimore County-Dundalk after his prep days. As a freshman, he was second on the team in assists. As a professional, King was Captain on the Pure Passion Sports Superior International Tournament Championship Team and played in the ACPBL for the NJ Pro's. He also played in the ABA for NJ Express and West Virginia Blazers.
Coach King is a father to 5 sons (Nazir, Elijah, Za'Veon, Khameron, and Anwar).
