LIONS RETURN HOME
After spending the opening weeks of the season on the road, Lincoln will have an opportunity to compete in front of its home supporters for the first time this season.
The Lions have faced a challenging nonconference schedule that has included West Chester, Jefferson, Caldwell, Goldey-Beacom and Millersville. Saturday's matchup provides Lincoln with another opportunity to continue developing its young roster before CIAA competition begins.
Freshman Yvette Mercedes has emerged as one of Lincoln's offensive options early in the season, while Audreynette Lydgate, Amira Billingsley and Elise Carter have contributed at the net. Charly Manley and Donavyn Morris have helped direct the offense, with Morris also contributing in the back row.
LAST TIME OUT
Lincoln enters Saturday's home opener following a road matchup at Millersville on Tuesday evening.
Lydgate led the Lions with five kills, while Mercedes contributed three kills, three digs and a service ace. Lincoln also recorded three solo blocks in the match.
The Lions will look to carry those individual performances into Saturday while establishing consistency offensively, limiting errors and creating pressure from the service line.
HOME-COURT OPPORTUNITY
Saturday's contest represents more than another nonconference matchup for the Lions, as Lincoln gets its first opportunity of the season to play in front of its home crowd.
With conference play approaching, the matchup against Cheyney gives Lincoln another opportunity to build chemistry, establish momentum and put together a complete performance.
WHAT'S NEXT
Following Saturday's home opener, Lincoln turns its attention to CIAA play. The Lions will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, on Monday, September 21, to face Shaw University. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
