Softball Closes Triangle Classic; Set for Doubleheader at Jefferson on March 7

Raleigh, N.C. – March 1, 2026 – The Lincoln University (PA) softball team wrapped up play at the Triangle Classic on Sunday, dropping a pair of tightly contested games against Indiana (Pa.) and Ferrum to close the weekend.

Game 1: Indiana (Pa.) 5, Lincoln 2

The Lions (4-7) collected 11 hits in the morning matchup but were unable to overcome a three-run fourth inning by Indiana.

Oaklyn Johnson (Baltimore, MD) led the offense with two hits and a run scored, while Aliya Rose (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Preperatory) and Jordin Cathey (Long Beach, CA/Gahr High School) each recorded two hits. Cici Bullock (Frederick, MD) and Rose both added doubles as Lincoln consistently put runners on base throughout the contest.

Indiana broke through in the fourth inning with a home run and two bases-loaded walks to take a 3-0 lead, then added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth.

Lincoln mounted a late push in the seventh inning. Samiah Smith (Greenbelt, MD) drove in a run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Cathey followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-2. However, the rally fell short.

Cathey took the loss in the circle, throwing six innings and allowing five runs while battling through 11 hits.

Game 2: Ferrum 1, Lincoln 0

The afternoon game turned into a pitcher's duel at Walnut Creek Field, with Ferrum edging the Lions 1-0.

Ferrum scored the game's lone run in the third inning on an RBI single to center field.

Lincoln was held to four hits, with Samiah Smith (Greenbelt, MD) leading the way with two. Ajah McDowell (Atlanta, GA/Druid Hills High School) and Amari Frederick (Woodbridge, VA) each added a hit, but the Lions were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Breylin Gamble (Menifee, CA) delivered a strong outing in the circle, tossing a complete game and allowing just one run on five hits while striking out five.

Despite solid pitching performances and competitive at-bats, Lincoln was unable to find the timely hit in the weekend finale.
