Lions Welcome Winston-Salem State for Homecoming and Senior Day

10/23/2026 3:00:00 PM

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University football team returns home for a celebration of Lion pride as it hosts Winston-Salem State University on Saturday, October 24. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Dr. Frank "Tick" Coleman Football Stadium. The CIAA matchup will highlight Lincoln's Centennial Homecoming festivities and include recognition of the football seniors before kickoff.

Lincoln enters Saturday at 1–6 overall and will look to build on its success in its last game on campus, a 20–7 victory over Bluefield State on September 26. Following three consecutive contests away from campus, the Lions return to familiar surroundings seeking to regroup after last weekend's loss at Johnson C. Smith.

Wide receiver Kyrie Tyson (Elkton, MD/Elkton HS) has provided a spark for Lincoln's offense throughout conference play. Tyson earned CIAA Wide Receiver of the Week honors for four consecutive weeks, most recently following a 10-catch, 147-yard, two-touchdown performance at Elizabeth City State. Both touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, when he also caught a two-point conversion to help fuel Lincoln's late rally.

The Lions will look to complement their passing attack with productive possessions on the ground while limiting the negative plays that can stall drives. Establishing an early rhythm and finishing scoring opportunities will be priorities against a Winston-Salem State defense coming off a disruptive performance.

Defensively, Sahaaj Bennett (Netcong, NJ/Malcolm X Shabazz HS) brings another proven playmaker into Saturday's matchup. Bennett earned CIAA Defensive Back of the Week recognition after recording a game-high 10 tackles at Elizabeth City State, helping Lincoln hold the Vikings to 28 passing yards. His ability to support the run will be valuable against a Rams offense that found success on the ground last weekend.
Winston-Salem State also enters at 1–6 following a 43–14 victory over Bluefield State, its first win under head coach Tory Woodbury. The Rams rushed for 340 yards and four touchdowns, led by Jayvion Danzy's 182 yards and two scores on 16 carries. WSSU's defense added five sacks and forced two turnovers while limiting Bluefield State to 83 rushing yards.
Containing Danzy, maintaining gap discipline and preventing explosive runs will be central to Lincoln's defensive effort. On offense, protecting the quarterback and sustaining drives would help the Lions control possession and give their defense opportunities to reset.
Saturday also provides an opportunity to recognize Lincoln's seniors and their contributions to the program. With alumni, students, families and supporters returning for Homecoming, the Lions will look to turn the energy surrounding the celebration into a strong performance.
