Philadelphia, PA – January 7, 2025 – The Lincoln University (PA) women's basketball team held off a late surge from Fayetteville State University to secure a 65-62 victory in a tight CIAA at Saint Joseph University. With the win, the Lions improve to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in CIAA play, bouncing back after a tough loss earlier in the week.
Senior Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) delivered a stellar performance, posting a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds, while shooting 9-of-17 from the field. Senior Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) contributed across the board with 18 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds, including key plays down the stretch. Junior Kaziah Akinniyi (Baltimore, Md./Poly) added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals, while senior Hunter Conway (Belleville, MI/Belleville) chipped in 9 points off the bench.
Lincoln shot an impressive 41.5% from the field and dominated the boards, grabbing 42 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards that led to crucial second-chance points. The Lions also forced 15 turnovers, converting them into 14 points, while holding Fayetteville State to just 33.3% shooting.
After leading 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, Lincoln took control with a 24-point second quarter to enter halftime with a 39-33 lead. Fayetteville State fought back in the fourth quarter, but Lincoln's clutch free-throw shooting and defensive stops sealed the win.
The Lions will aim to continue their momentum in their next CIAA contest against Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 6:00 p.m..
