Wilmington, DE - November 13, 2024 — The Lincoln University (PA) women's basketball team dominated Wilmington (DE) with an 86-45 victory, marking a strong performance across all quarters at the WU Athletics Complex.
The Lions got off to a steady start, leading 11-5 in the first quarter before breaking out with a 27-point surge in the second quarter, gaining a commanding 38-17 advantage at halftime. Lincoln kept the pressure on throughout the second half, scoring 24 points in each of the last two quarters.
Standout Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) led Lincoln with a stellar 24-point, 11-rebound double-double, shooting 4-7 from beyond the arc. Alaila Walker (Kalamazoo, Mich./Central) and Kaziah Akinniyi (Baltimore, Md./Poly) also made significant contributions, with Walker putting up 13 points and Akinniyi adding 10. The Lions' defense was relentless, recording 19 steals, led by Fields and Akinniyi, who both had three steals each.
Lincoln's offensive execution was evident in their fast-break opportunities, which netted 32 points, and their ability to capitalize on turnovers, adding 43 points. The team out-rebounded Wilmington 49-37, with Fields and Anyia Gibson (Edgewood, MD/) pulling down 11 and 7 rebounds, respectively.
Looking to build on this win, the Lions will compete in the VSU Tournament this weekend. They will face Shaw University on Saturday at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup against Johnson C. Smith University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
