Lincoln University, PA - November 12, 2024 – The Lincoln University (PA) women's volleyball team competed valiantly against Virginia State University but ultimately fell in three competitive sets, with final scores of 17-25, 24-26, and 18-25 at Manuel Rivero Hall.

The Lions showed resilience, especially in the second set, where they nearly claimed the lead multiple times before Virginia State eked out a narrow victory. Lincoln demonstrated both offensive and defensive strengths, keeping rallies alive and maintaining high energy throughout the match.

Elise Carter (Smyrna, DE/Smyrna HS) led the Lions with seven kills, hitting at an impressive .222, while Janiece Lumpkin (Middletown, DE/Middletown HS) added five kills, playing a crucial role in the team's offensive push. Freshman setter Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) facilitated Lincoln's offense, contributing 22 assists, two service aces, and two block assists. Laila Newborn (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) also added two service aces, adding pressure to Virginia State's backline.

On defense, Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/) led the Lions with a match-high 11 digs, and both Jaida and Davion Blanchard (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) added four digs each, showcasing defensive grit and effort across the back row.

Despite the setback, Lincoln University (PA) displayed determination and competitive spirit. The Lions will look to build on this performance as they prepare for their next home game against Bluefield State University on November 14, with the first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
