Philadelphia, PA November 11, 2024 - The Lincoln University (PA) women's volleyball team faced a tough opponent in Chestnut Hill College, ultimately falling in three hard-fought sets with final scores of 20-25, 13-25, and 18-25 at Sorgenti Arena.
The Lions put up a spirited effort, especially in the first set, where they managed to keep the score close with multiple lead changes and kept Chestnut Hill within five points. Chestnut Hill, however, pulled away in the second and third sets, demonstrating strong offensive play and steady defense.
Charly Manley (Upper Marlboro, MD/Frederick Douglass HS) led the Lions' attack with three kills, followed closely by Elise Carter (Smyrna, DE/Smyrna HS), who added two kills and showcased consistent play at the net. Freshman setter Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) was instrumental in moving the ball for Lincoln, finishing with 11 assists, one service ace, and a block assist. Laila Newborn (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) also contributed with three service aces, adding pressure to Chestnut Hill's back row.
Defensively, Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/) anchored Lincoln's effort, recording a team-high nine digs, while Lumpkin and Davion Blanchard (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) each contributed three digs, working to keep rallies alive and limit Chestnut Hill's scoring opportunities.
Despite the loss, Lincoln University (PA) showed resilience and determination. They will look to rebound in their next home match against Virginia State University on November 12, 2024, with the first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
