Sorber Hits Game-Winning Basket to Elevate LU Lions, 65-64, over ECSU Vikings

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA (January 24, 2024)- The Lincoln University Lions men's basketball team grasped a 65-64 victory over the Elizabeth City State University Vikings on Wednesday evening. Junior forward Peter Sorber (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) hit the game-winning buzzer beater to elevate the Lions to their victory.

Series: Lincoln trails the series,15-16, against the Vikings

FIRST HALF
  • The atmosphere was electric in Manuel Rivero, as the fans anticipated a great CIAA matchup.
  • From the opening tip, both teams battled for control of the contest.
  • Overall, each team gained the lead 6 times during the first half.
  • Despite the ECSU Viking leading in every statistical category in the half, the Lions stayed in close scoring range, entering the locker room down by 5 (27-22)

SECOND HALF
  • Despite the small scoring deficit, the Lions returned to the court with a renewed energy as the atmosphere of the home court advantage increased.
  • The score remained neck and neck, as each team responded to the other's every move.
  • With the score tied 61-all with 2:21 left in the matchup, the Lion fans stood to their feet to give the team some much needed motivation to prevail.
  • Peter Sorber (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) drove in for a layup to give LU the 63-61 lead with :21 on the clock.
  • ECSU answered back the a 3-pointer to take the 64-63 lead.
  • Lincoln took a time out with :11 left in regulation, allowing the Lion fans to turn up the PR1DE.
  • With :04 on the clock, Ethan Garita (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) connected with Sorber who hit the game-winning jumper!
  • The crowd rushed the court as it was evident that the Lions secured the close 65-64 victory over the Elizabeth City State University Vikings.
LION LEADERS
  • Reggie Hudson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) led the Lions in scoring with 21 points.
  • Also scoring in double digits Aidan Anderson (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) (14 points) and Peter Sober (13 points).
  • Janaie Coates-Sinues (Newark, N.J./University) controlled the Lions boards, securing 8 rebounds, in addition to 3 blocks.
  • Hudson and Freddie Young, Jr. (Ewing, N.J./Trenton Catholic) added 4 assists each to the books, while and 2 blocks respectively.
  • Young and Sorber each snatched 2 steals in the Lions win over ECSU.

UP NEXT
The Lions will travel to Ettrick, VA to face the Trojans of Virginia State University on Saturday, January 27. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
