ETTRICK, VA (January 27, 2024)- The Lincoln University Lions men's basketball team secured another CIAA Northern Division buzzer-beater victory, this time over the Trojans of Virginia State University. Junior guard
Reggie Hudson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) hit the game-winning buzzer beater, giving the Lions a 63-61 road win.

FIRST HALF
- Going into the contest, both teams were equally matched with a 9-10 season record.
- From the opening tip, the Trojans took control going on a 6-0 run.
- Despite it being a road game for the Lions, the team worked to dominate the court.
- Getting into the groove of the matchup, LU closed the scoring gap and found space to take the lead.
- The first half saw 3 tied scores and a hand full of lead changes.
- Lincoln proved to be a tough opponent as halftime drew near.
- Entering the locker room, the LU Lions held strong to a 32-25 lead.
SECOND HALF
- The second half seemed to rule in favor of VSU, as they took control of the game and the lead.
- LU managed to stay in lead changing range, preparing to jump ahead.
- With 2:17 left in the contest, Freddie Young, Jr. (Ewing, N.J./Trenton Catholic) landed a shot from behind the arc, tying the score 57-all.
- The lead toggled between the teams as the clock ran down.
- Utilizing their timeouts, the Lions strategized on winning the game.
- After returning to the court from the final charged timeout of the contest, Lincoln was prepared to execute their final play.
- With :04 on the clock, Young connected with Reggie Hudson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) who hit the game-winning layup, giving the Trojans and their fans an instant upset!
- Lincoln prevailed, proving to be the FIRST and true Orange and Blue with a score of 63-61.
LION LEADERS
- Freddie Young, Jr. (Ewing, N.J./Trenton Catholic) controlled the contest by putting up 25 points, his highest scoring game this season.
- In addition to also scoring in double digits with 10 points, Reggie Hudson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's), controlled the Lions rebounds (7), steals (3) and assists (3).
UP NEXT
The Lions will return home to face Big Blue of Bluefield State University on Wednesday, January 31. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
