Baseball Salvages One, Beats Spartans For First Time

POMONA, N.Y. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania baseball program can now be able to say it has beaten one of the ECC's top programs on the diamond, scoring seven runs in the final two innings to win game one over St. Thomas Aquinas, 8-4, after losing its first 11 matchups in the series.

 

The Lions had a setback in the series finale, dropping that one in seven, 4-2.

  • Lincoln used its speed to their advantage, stealing five bases in the triumph; two from Bryce Oliver (Williamstown, N.J./St. Augustine's Prep) and Josiah Bowles (Plant City, Fla./Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) plus one by Alex Jones (Bear, Del./Appoquinimink).

  • Starting pitchers Darrion Williams (East Hartford, Conn./East Hartford) and Josiah Bowles (Plant City, Fla./Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) had similar outings, both hurling six innings while allowing two earned runs as the former struck out two in a no-decision and the latter K'ed four during a complete game loss.

  • Oliver has a great first game, of three singles, two runs and steals, as well as an RBI.

  • Jaden Greenidge (Richmond, Va./Monacan) reached three times at the plate before hopping on the rubber to pick up the pitching win with two scoreless frames in the opener.

  • Jones has a multi-hit affair including a double and a ribbie while Josh Shepherd (Bowie, Md./Bowie) tallied three hits overall with a solo tater and a RBI single to drive home both runs in the nightcap.

Notes:

  • The victory was the team's tenth of the season, its first with double-digit wins since 2006 when they went 14-14.

  • LUPA will kick off its final homestand of the season, an eight-game stint on campus beginning with Queens (New York) for a single game at 2 p.m. on Friday.
