ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania track & field program filled podium spots left and right all day long on the southernmost campus in Maryland, totaling 28 top-three finishes overall at the Seahawk Invitational.
The Lions saw almost every single member of both teams contribute in some form, but these select individuals and relay teams stood out more than the rest.
The women's 4x100m quartet of Aisha Carrington (Baltimore, Md./Franklin), Kamani Johns (Chester, Pa./Chester), Ade Conover (Newark, NJ/Louis Dieruff (PA)), and Anaeja Ferrell (Newark, Del./St. Georges) were one of the gold medal winners, running a time of 48.97 seconds.
The Lions took hold of three of the top four spots during the 800m run as Johns came away victorious at 2:23.21 with Jazlynn Church (Wilmington, Del./The Charter School) (2:24.91) and Destiny Pierre Mathieu (Drexil Hill, Pa./Prendie & Bonner) (2:28.46) were not far behind, placing second and fourth, respectively.
Along with helping her teammates take the gold in the 4x100m relays, Carrington took home a gold on her own as well, capturing the top time in the 100m with a speed of 14.90.
The final female accomplishment that Head coach Roland Whiting wanted to highlight was Ferrell's triumph in the long jump, leaping an event best 5.34m to set a new personal-record.
As for the men, Michael Amaker (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) fell just shy of a podium placement in the 1,500m, claiming fourth with a mark of 4:20.97, a personal-low benchmark.
Not only were the women highly successful in the 800m, the guys were equally fast as Irvin Marable (Somers Point, N.J./Pleasantville) (1:58.20) and Amaker (1:59.40) went one-two with the former PRing.
Ra'ar Corinaldi (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill Freedman Academy) grabbed the gold medal in the 400 hurdles, crossing the finish line six seconds faster than the runner-up (Jayden Rodriguez (Hillside, N.J./North Star Academy) – 1:01.40) at 55.07 seconds, a personal-low time.
Finally, Jeremy Gyan (Bear, Del./Newark Charter) threw the javelin a personal-best distance of 44.33m to sit atop the leaderboard for the event.
LU of PA will take the Easter weekend off before returning on Saturday, April 15 when it competes in the Bill Butler Invitational inside John A. Farrell Stadium on the campus of West Chester University.
