Squandered Scoring Opportunities Gets Baseball Swept By Queens (NY)

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania baseball program loaded the bases full of Lions not once, but twice with less than two outs in game one and came up emptyhanded both times in a microcosm of their hitting woes on the day, dropping games three and four of the series by 8-3 and 8-4 margins.

What You Need to Know:

  • Game 1: Queens (NY) 8 | Lincoln (PA) 3

  • Game 2 (7 Innings): Queens (NY) 8 | Lincoln (PA) 4

  • Records: Lincoln-PA (10-25-1, 3-9 ECC) | Queens-NY (24-9, 8-4 ECC)

  • Winning Streak: Queens-NY (W14) | Lincoln (PA)'s Last Win: None Since At Least 2001

Lincoln (PA) Top Performers:

  • Josiah Bowles (Plant City, Fla./Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) had a solid outing despite defensive lapses behind him, pitching 5.1 frames of three earned run work (six total) with a pair of whiffs.

  • Conner Jones (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball between the two contests, totaling two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.

  • DeAndre Bowens (Rock Hill, N.Y./Monticello) arguably swung the hottest stick of the weekend for Coach Pla, ending the weekend with a 2-for-2, two-RBI finale in which he also walked and scored while driving in both Damaal Sands (Nassau, Bahamas/Monteverde Academy) plus Jalen Greenidge (Richmond, Va./Monacan) during his double he ripped down the right field line.

  • Speaking of Greenidge, he was nearly unstoppable in the opener, racking up three hits and a base on balls over five plate appearances, crossing the dish once and doubling as well.

  • Alex Jones (Bear, Del./Appoquinimink) also had a nice overall performance, contributing an RBI-double, a single, a walk, and a run scored.

Notes:

  • The three runs on ten base knocks in game one is by far the lowest scoring output of 2023 when collecting double-figure hit totals, leaving a total of eight men stranded.

Next:

  • The round ballers will host a pivotal four-game set against the Dolphins of Staten Island starting on Friday as it tries to make a late push towards the ECC Tournament during its final homestand of the year.
