Baseball Walks-Off Alliance In Game One, Breaks Program Scoring Record In Game Two

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania baseball program needed two extra frames to dispatch Alliance with a walk-off sacrifice fly on the front half of the twin-bill (4-3) before breaking the team's all-time program record for most runs scored in a single game during a 23-6 romp in the nightcap.

The closest game on record that could be found was a 22-6 drubbing of Virginia-Lynchburg on March 18, 2012.

What You Need to Know:

  • Game 1: Lincoln (PA) 4 | Alliance 3

  • Game 2 (7 Innings): Lincoln (PA) 23 | Alliance 6

  • Records: Lincoln-PA (4-12-1, 0-0 ECC) | Alliance (1-18, 0-0 CACC)

  • Winning Streak: Lincoln-PA (W2) | Alliance's Last Win: February 23, 2018 (20-1, Game 2, 7 Innings)

Lincoln (PA) Top Performers:

  • Alex Jones (Bear, Del./Appoquinimink) was the hero in the first game, lofting a sacrifice fly just deep enough in right field to allow Josiah Bowles (Plant City, Fla./Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) to beat the throw to the plate and set off the raucous celebration. Jones also added a triple as well.

  • Jalen Greenidge (Richmond, Va./Monacan) was on fire all day long, hitting .667 (4-for-6) with five runs scored, two walks, a triple, a steal, and an RBI.

  • Freshman David Estevez (Philadelphia, Penn./Olney Charter) was incredible, winning his first collegiate game by grabbing season-bests in innings pitched (6.0) and strikeouts (11), giving up a measly two runs and four hits.

  • Jaden Greenidge (Richmond, Va./Monacan) was the catalyst of the offensive onslaught in game two, notching a perfect 3-of-3 showing, scoring thrice, walking once, picking up five RBIs, and falling a double shy of the cycle. His three-run bomb in the third extended the advantage to 12-0 in favor of the home side, the second long ball of his career.

  • Bryce Oliver (Williamstown, N.J./St. Augustine's Prep) also came up one hit shy of a natural cycle as well, getting the single, double, and triple but missing the round-tripper during a three-hit, four-score, two-ribbie outing.

  • DeAndre Bowens (Rock Hill, N.Y./Monticello) and Wesley Hogan (Washington, D.C./The Maret School) each collected four runs batted in while combining for a quartet of hits and runs scored, one double, one triple, and a walk.

  • The two pitchers in game one both did a commendable job as Gabriel Sanchez (Anthony, N.M./Gadsden) allowed two runs over six innings before Conner Jones (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) came on to earn his second win of the year with a perfect slate over three innings which saw nobody reach safely outside of two bean balls amid two Ks.

Notes:

  • The walk-off victory was the first for the team since February 24, 2017, also against Alliance, back when they were known as Nyack, during a 13-12 triumph.

Next:

  • Same time, same place, different opponent as the Chestnut Hill Griffins invade campus for a Sunday matinee doubleheader.
