Game Book

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania men's basketball program's Cinderella story is one step away from completion as the sixth-seeded Lions took down #2 Fayetteville State to advance to the team's first ever CIAA Championship Game.

Despite being a founding member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association 111 years ago (1912) and playing in the first official conference tournament in 1946 (77 years), the men's basketball program had never taken part in the contest until now.

Lincoln (PA) Top Performers:

  • Ethan Garita (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) was the only Lion to set any kind of a season or career-high, playing a personal-most 35 minutes and only his third career multi-assist game (2) while picking up a block in his ninth contest this year. He also went for a modest Lion-high 11 points with four boards, making half of his ten field goal tries in the process.

  • Reggie Hudson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) co-led Lincoln with 11 points as well and Korey Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) dropped ten points on the Broncos courtesy of making all three of the club's treys.

  • Peter Sorber (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) had yet another multi-block night (2), grabbing a tied for squad-best five boards, along with Freddie Young, Jr. (Ewing, N.J./Trenton Catholic)

Notes:

  • Friday evening marked the third time in 2022-23 that Lincoln held its opponent without a blocked shot, the only time it accomplished the feat against a conference opponent.

  • The defense has truly stepped up on the squad's historic run, limiting the Broncos to a minuscule 49 points, the third-lowest mark the Orange and Blue have had this year.

Next:

  • The Lincoln University Lions will play for the CIAA Championship at 1 p.m. ET inside CFG Bank Arena versus the #5 Winston-Salem State Rams, who knocked off the top seed Virginia Union Panthers in the semis.

  • The last time the Lions and Rams played on December 15 of 2022, WSSU slipped by LU in North Carolina, 69-65.
