Johnson & Iguaran Homer As Benedict Takes Two From Lions

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania baseball program stole five bases, hit five doubles, and blasted two home runs but an offensive barrage by the Tigers sent the Lions to their fourth consecutive defeat, 9-6 and 23-3.

Lincoln (PA) Top Performers:

  • Sheldon Johnson (Pittsburgh, Penn./Woodland Hills) sent another baseball into orbit, crunching his third home run of the season, plus picking up a single and a trio of walks.

  • Sebastian Iguaran (Port Orange, Fla./Spruce Creek) only played in the doubleheader opener but was impressive, sailing his first career round-tripper over the fence in a 2-for-2 day which included a steal, two runs scored and three walks to reach base all five times to the plate.

  • The Greenidge brothers both put forth quality offensive displays as the two combined to hit .400 (4-of-10) with three doubles, three runs batted in, two free passes, and a painful hit-by-pitch.

  • Leadoff hitter Jefry Azcona's (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) bat might be awakening from his early season slumber, cataloging a pair of hits including a double with a pair of steals, two walks plus a sacrifice fly and an RBI.

  • The pitching staff did not encounter many bright spots on Thursday but one of them was sophomore Hilbert Nina De Leon (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) who was borderline unhittable, recording the final six outs with three via strikeout, and just one hit surrendered.

Notes:

  • The Lions dropped to 4-17 (19%) versus the Benedict Tigers since 2008.

Next:

  • Lincoln will play its final two regular season games south of Virginia on Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m. opposite the Anderson Trojans in Anderson Memorial Stadium.
