Carrington & Johns Qualify For NCAAs, Butler & Gyan Win Two Golds Each At CIAA Indoor Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania men and women's track programs were well-represented at the CIAA Indoor Championships inside the JDL Fast Track as both squads finished in the middle of the pack with numerous individual standouts.

The women came in fifth place with 50 points, besting Johnson C. Smith (42), Claflin (21), Livingstone (14), Bowie State (9), and Virginia Union (1).

Aisha Carrington (Baltimore, Md./Franklin) punched her ticket to the NCAA Provisionals, winning the 60 hurdles in 8.74 seconds, the second-best time in the Atlantic Region this indoor season. She also scored sixth place for her personal-record time of 7.88 during the 60m dash.

Kamani Johns (Chester, Pa./Chester) will now join Carrington on her way to the NCAAs, doing so by claiming the silver in the 400m (56.72), the third-fastest mark in the Atlantic on top of a seventh place slot for her 200m performance (25.64, PR).

The 4x400m relay quartet of Jazlynn Church (Wilmington, Del./The Charter School), Angel Adams (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan), Jazmin Savage (Philadelphia, Pa./Overbrook), and Johns also took home second place in an Atlantic Region third-best time of 3:59.33.

Church was the final lady Lion to have one of the region's top times, securing the silver medal as well during her personal-low in the 800m (2:22.50), ranking ninth regionally.

Olivia Wright (Winslow Twp., N.J/Winslow Twp.) was one of two females to score in the field, coming in fifth with a long jump of 11.51m (PR), ninth-farthest in the region.

The other field athlete to place was Ida Rose Moore (), earning a single point for her 5.05m long jump.

Three women earned new personal-records outside of the scoring realm as Nakacee McNab (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) (2:29.69 in 800m), Jazmin Savage (Philadelphia, Pa./Overbrook) (2:33.44 in 800m), and Angel Adams (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan) (4.79m in long jump) all set new bests to further enhance their skills.

The men placed fourth at 87 points which was more than Virginia State (79), Johnson C. Smith (49), Bowie State (39) plus Virginia Union (39).

Glenn Butler, Jr. (Greenburgh, N.Y./White Plains) continues to steamroll the competition, snagging the gold medal in both of his events with a 1.98m high jump and a 7.60m long jump as his trophy case starts to fill up even more.

Jeremy Gyan (Bear, Del./Newark Charter) is already starting to follow in Butler's footsteps, also bringing a pair of golds back to Lincoln with him, doing so by securing a personal-most 4,413 points in the heptathlon where he PR'd in five of the seven events on top of coming down victorious with a 4.05m pole vault.

Jordan Hall (Randallstown, Md./Newtown) (4,074) and Nyle Buchanan (King George, Va./King George) (3,723) slotted third and fifth in the same heptathlon respectively, as well, both PRing in six-of-seven events while Hall came in sixth for his 8.34 60m dash (PR) to score twice on the day.

Both Jayden Rodriguez (Hillside, N.J./North Star Academy) (8.30 60m) and Michael Amaker (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) (1:57.46 800m, PR) both netted themselves silver medals as Irvin Marable (Somers Point, N.J./Pleasantville) (2:02.31 800m) and Ra'ar Corinaldi (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill Freedman Academy) (50.80 400m, PR) both scored.

Jude Butumbi (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) was nothing if not consistent, earning a pair of seventh place finishes in the long jump (6.66m) and triple jump (13.43m)

The team of Jonathan Childs (Hialeah Gardens, Fla./Mater Dei), Amaker, Corinaldi, and Marable recorded top-five placements in both the DMR (11:08.62) and 4x400m relay (3:20.46) with the latter being the seventh-best in the Atlantic Region.

Head coach Roland Whiting will take the student-athletes even further down the coast next Friday for the University of South Carolina Indoor Opener.
