Ladies Keep Pace In Race For Top Seed With Road Win Over Bears


RALEIGH, N.C. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's basketball program remains just one game back of Fayetteville State and holding the tiebreaker for the CIAA's number one seed in the conference tournament, beating the Shaw Bears by a final of 65-58 in the Tar Heel State on Saturday.

  • Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) corralled a contest-best eight rebounds, rejected one of the game's two blocked shots, dropped 13 points and shot 45.5%.
 
  • Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) was dealing out dimes with a daily high of five, Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) put a dozen on the board while D'Ayzha Atkinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) tied her personal-high with four free throws made en route to ten points.
 
  • Shaye Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Life Center) put in a fair amount of work in limited minutes (10), knocking down her second career three-pointer and notching her second career multi-assist contest (2) as well.
 
Notes:
 
  • The Lions did not have its best offensive performance of the year, getting outshot by nearly ten percent on its field goals (39.3% to 48%), but a plus-seven turnover margin (20-13), a plus-five rebounding margin (33-28), and a season-low five offensive boards allowed, Coach Washington's squad found a way to pick up a crucial victory on the road.
