Lincoln U Men’s Basketball Overpowers Kutztown, 84-70

ELIZABETH CITY, NC (November 11, 2023)- The Lincoln University men's basketball team overpowered the Golden Bears of Kutztown University, 84-70, for day 2 of the PSAC/ CIAA Challenge and the Lions first win of the season.

GAME INFORMATION
Score: Lincoln 84, Kutztown 70
Records: Lincoln (1-1, 0-0), Kutztown (1-1, 0-0)
Location: R.L. Vaughan Center (Elizabeth City, NC)
Series: Lincoln controls the series, 4-3, against Kutztown

FIRST HALF
  • The Lions did not waste any time going on a 5-0 in the opening minutes of the half, thanks to baskets by Bakir Cleveland (Newark, N.J./University).
  • Although Kutztown managed to get in the game with 2 consecutive shots from behind the arc, LU stayed consistent, answering back at every shot the Golden Bears delivered.
  • The Lions maxed out with as much as a 13 point lead over Kutztown, further dominating the court
  • The half ended how it began with back to back shots by Bakir Cleveland (Newark, N.J./University), giving the Lions a 43-32 lead going into halftime.

SECOND HALF
  • Lincoln continued to take charge of the matchup, hindering any chances of the Golden Bears taking control.
  • Working together to display their offensive and defensive skills, the Lions grasped a game high lead of 19 points.
  • As the clock ran down, the game undoubtedly belonged to LU with a final score of 84-70.
 
LION LEADERS
  • Bakir Cleveland (Newark, N.J./University) led the Lions in scoring and assists with 20 points and 6 assists.
  • Also scoring in double digits were Peter Sorber (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) with 16 points, alongside Freddie Young, Jr. (Ewing, N.J./Trenton Catholic) and Janaie Coares-Sinues with13 points each.
  • In addition to Peter Sorber (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) scoring in the double digits, he also led the Lions with 8 rebounds.  

UP NEXT
The Lions will travel to Winter Park, FL to face the Tars of Rollins College on Wednesday, November 15. Tip-off is set for 7pm
