11 Personal-Records Fall, Eight Student-Athletes Place Top-Ten At Gotham Cup

 
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania men and women's track programs put their impressive abilities on display in Staten Island on Friday, culminating in 11 different placements among the events' top-ten as well as 11 personal-records shattering for the Lions.
 
Both 4x400m relay teams had strong outings as each team garnered the bronze medal as the females ran a 4:00.46 while the males sped around the track in a time of 3:23.85.
 
The women were primarily the top finishers on the afternoon as five of the tenth place or better results came from the ladies.
 
Only one Lion logged multiple appearances among the best times of the day and that was Aisha Carrington (Baltimore, Md./Franklin). The sophomore sprinter from Baltimore, Maryland claimed the highest individual placement among LU runners with a fourth place showing in the 60m hurdles with a 9.05 second time while also clocking in at tenth during the 200m dash as well, crossing the finish line in 26.22 seconds.
 
Kamani Johns (Chester, Pa./Chester) was the second-highest placement for the ladies as she came in sixth for the 200m by setting a new personal-best of 25.72.
 
Jazlynn Church (Wilmington, Del./The Charter School) also set a PR in the 400m with a mark of 1:00.06 to come in seventh while the Adams twins, Amani and Angel, recorded ninth and tenth place personal-low time results in the 60m hurdles (9.45) and 500m (1:21.09), respectively.
 
The men's side consisted of numerous personal-records being set as seven Lions for the men set new benchmarks.
 
The top finishing student-athlete for the guys was Jayden Rodriguez (Hillside, N.J./North Star Academy), who earned fifth in the 60m hurdles for his 8.46-second outing.
 
Other men who finished among the ten best in the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex were Jordan Hall's (Randallstown, Md./Newtown) ninth place finish in the 60m hurdles as well as Daniel Cooley's (Owings Mills, Md./Northern) 1.84m high jump to snag tenth. Cooley also notched a new personal-record on Staten Island with a 6.32m long jump.
 
Two Lions broke PRs in the shot put as Grant Fields (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) threw the ball 12.18 meters followed by Divonte Newsome's () 10.57m throw.
 
A pair of Lions also set personal-record times during the 400m dash as Jonathan Childs (Hialeah Gardens, Fla./Mater Dei) ran a 51.48 and Nasir Scott (Levittown, Pa./Harriet Tubman) crossed in 51.93.
 
The final standards to be heightened were by Michael Amaker (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) with a 1:59.56 800m event plus a 23.18 200m mark by Jude Butumbi (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast).
 
Next on the schedule for Head Coach Roland Whiting's bunch is a two-day event in Lexington at the Virginia Military Institute's Winter Classic from January 27-28 inside the CPTF-Corps Physical Training Facility.
