Baseball record 12 hits in loss

One big inning was enough.

The Lincoln University baseball team surrendered 12 runs in the eighth inning in falling, 16-10, to Saint Thomas Aquinas Friday in East Coast Conference action.

Lincoln's bullpen allowed 14 runs over the final four innings as freshman Connor Jones was saddled with the loss, allowing eight runs – six earned – on just three hits in two innings of work. Freshman starter Liam Palmer (Ford Island, Hawaii/Grassfield (Va.)) allowed two unearned runs on three hits over five innings of action with two strikeouts and four walks.

Three of Palmer's walks came in the first inning, but he was able to skirt any damage thanks to a line out and a double play.

With the momentum of getting out of the bases loaded jam, the first three LU batters reached – the latter being an RBI single by junior DeAndre Bowens. The Bowens knock brought home Azcona, who opened with a single and stolen base. Freshman Miguel Agramonte scored freshman Sebastian Iguaran with a single through the right side.

Sophomore Joshua Shepherd capped the first-inning scoring with a sacrifice fly.

The Spartans pulled to within a single run with unearned runs in fourth and fifth innings.

A double by freshman Wesley Hogan (Washington, D.C./Maret) in the fifth and a RBI single by Iguaran in the sixth pushed the LU lead by to three runs.

STAC got a pair of runs in the seventh, but a solo shot to straight away centerfield boosted Lincoln's lead to a pair of runs, but the robust eighth was enough offense for the Spartans.

Lincoln returns to action for a doubleheader Saturday, beginning with a nine-inning game at noon.
