Lion Drop Doubleheader to Trojans

The Lincoln University women's softball team closed out their weekend road trip to Virginia with a pair of losses to Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association  (CIAA) North Division rival Virginia State university,  falling to the Trojans 9-0 and 11-1 on Sunday in Ettrick, Virginia.
 
Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich. /Summit Academy) recorded her second multiple hit game of the weekend with two hits in the second game.  She also recorded a stolen base in the third inning following her second hit of the game.  Quadira Daniels (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz Mastery Charter), who was hit by a pitch to start the inning scored on the play, giving Lincoln their lone run.

Fifia Waithe (Bronx, N.Y. /Life Sciences Secondary) had the Lions' lone hit in the opener, a fifth inning single. Selena Mulet (Baltimore, Md. /Catholic HS of Baltimore) also reached base via a walk fourth inning, breaking up a perfect game being thrown by VSU's Alexandra Quill.
 
Norwood took the loss in the opener, allowing just eight hits and nine runs.  Crudup took the loss in the nightcap allowing 11 runs (nine earned) on ten hits.
 
Brooklynn Bilyard drove in four runs for the Trojans in the two games while Kara Morris and Sydnee Brown drove in three apiece in the two game series.  Quill earned the win in the opener while Bilyard gained the win in the nightcap.
 
Lincoln is now 2-20 overall and 1-10 in CIAA games.  VSU is 14-12 overall and 10-1 lin league play.
 
The Lions return to action on Friday, April 5, 2019 when they host Washington Adventist University in their home opener at the Lions softball field.  First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
