The Lincoln University women's softball put runners on base in 11 of the 13 innings they played in the doubleheader Saturday at Bowie State University but were unable to convert them into enough runs as the Bulldogs completed a two-game sweep 9-1 and 10-3 at Jericho Park in Bowie, Maryland.

Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J. /Barnegat) had two hits in the opener including a double as Lincoln players reached the base paths in each of the first four innings.
Selena Mulet (Baltimore, Md. /Catholic HS of Baltimore) had an RBI single in the third to drive in LU's only run.Â
Jemiah Groce (Newark, Del. /Christiana) took the loss, tossing 5+ innings and allowing nine runs on nie hits.

Lincoln had a great opportunity in the second inning, loading the bases with two out but was unable to convert. Mulet got the Lions on the board in the third with an infield single, scoring
DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) who singled to lead off the inning, tying the game at 1-1.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the bottom of the third to retake the lead at 2-1 and added another run in the fourth before exploding for three runs in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead. Amya Ferguson delivered the big blow in the fifth for Bowie State, a two run home run.

BSU added two more runs in the sixth to take a 9-1 lead and secure the win.

In game two the Bulldogs scored seven times in the first two innings and made it stand for a 10-3 win.  Groce had one of the Lions four hits in the contest and drove in two of LU's three runs. She also took the loss, tossing six innings.

The Lions did strike first with Crudup driving in Mulet with a single in Lincoln's first at-bat of the game. The Bulldogs came right back, stringing together four hits to take a 5-1 lead and added two more on Kristina Hawke's two-run home run in the second.

In the third, Groce singled up the middle, scoring both Irwin and Mulet to cut the deficit to 7-3 and had opportunities in both the fifth and sixth innings. Mulet doubled to lead off the fifth and got as far as third base but was left stranded. In the sixth, two walks and a stolen base by
Kyleigh Norwood (Falls Church, Va. /Fairmont Heights) put runners on the corners before the inning ended without either of them scoring..

Bowie State added two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to round out the scoring.

Hawke (game 1) and Morgan Powell (game 2) picked up the wins in the circle for the Bulldogs (6-16, 6-7 CIAA). Lincoln falls to 2-22 overall and 1-12 in CIAA contests.

Lincoln returns to action on Sunday, April 7, 2019 for a non-conference doubleheader against Bluefield State University. The games will be the Lions' home openers and will start at noon at the LU Softball Field.
