The Lincoln University softball team played their second game of the day at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Roundup Friday evening against Johnson C. Smith University, losing to the Golden Bulls 20-0 in five innings. The roundup is being played at the South Park Complex in Elizabeth City, North Carolina
The Lions managed just one hit in the contest, a fifth inning single by
Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J. /Barnegat), but had six runners reach base in the game (Crudup's single, a walk to
Fifia Waithe (Bronx, N.Y. /Life Sciences Secondary) and four other players reaching on errors). Three of the Lions base runners did reach scoring position with their best threat coming in the fourth inning as
Jemiah Groce (Newark, Del. /Christiana) reached on an error and went to third when
Selena Mulet (Baltimore, Md. /Catholic HS of Baltimore) also reached base on an error. Mulet stole second to put runners at second and third base with nobody out, but the two were stranded on the base paths as LU's next three batters could not bring them home.
Groce to the loss for the Lions who fall to 2-11 overall and 1-1 in CIAA games.
JCSU scored five times in their first at-bat and never looked back, scoring in every inning along the way.
The Lions will play three games on Saturday at the CIAA Roundup, facing Fayetteville State, Claflin and Winston Salem State
