The Lincoln University women's softball team continued play at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) roundup Saturday at the South Park Complex in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The Lions dropped all three games on the day losing to Fayetteville state University, Claflin University and Winston-Salem State University.
FSU defeated the Lions 11-0 while Claflin recorded a 16-0 win. WSSU also shutout the Lions with an 11-0 score.
The three losses drop the Lions record to 2-14 overall and 1-4 in CIAA games.
Jemiah Groce (Newark, Del. /Christiana) had the Lions only hit against the Broncos, a single up the middle with two out in the fourth inning.
Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J. /Barnegat) also drew a walk in the fifth.
The Broncos (1-14) scored in every inning, starting with three runs in the first. FSU added two in the second, one each in the third and fourth and scored four time in the fifth to complete their scoring and earn their first win of the season.
Lincoln also had just one hit against Claflin in their 16-0 five inning loss, a bunt single from
Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich. /Summit Academy) in the third inning.
Selena Mulet (Baltimore, Md. /Catholic HS of Baltimore) also drew two walks in the game
Claflin exploded for 12 runs in the first inning and added three more in the third and closed out their scoring with one run in the fourth inning.
In their final game of the day, Lions' pitcher
Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J. /Barnegat) and
Kyleigh Norwood (Falls Church, Va. /Fairmont Heights) allowed just five total hits by the Rams (14-3), but also walked ten batters as the Rams jumped out to an early lead en route to an 11-0 win.
WSSU's Tia Robinson stifled the Lions offense, tossing a no-hitter and allowing just three walks while striking out nine batters.
The Rams scored eight times in the first inning and added solo runs in second, fourth and fifth innings.
Groce took the loss in the first two games while Crudup got the loss in the final game.
Lincoln will close out the roundup on Sunday with games against Shaw University and St. Augustine's University.
