Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) recorded his second straight double-double but the Lincoln University men's basketball team dropped a tough 66-64 decision to visiting Johnson C. Smith University Saturday afternoon at Manuel Rivero Hall.
The Lions fall to 2-10 on the season while The Golden Bulls improve to 7-2.
Williams scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.Â
Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) joined Williams in double figures with 14 points while pulling down eight rebounds. Â
Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) added nine points and seven rebounds.
It was a back and forth battle throughout the entire forty minutes of action with neither team leading by more than five points throughout the first half and no more than eight at any point in the game. In the first half alone there were five ties and eight lead changes as the Golden Bulls took a 30-29 lead into the locker-room at the half.
Lincoln trailed by seven early in the second half but exploded on a 15-3 run to take a five-point lead at 46-41 with 11:16 left.  Lincoln scored nine straight points highlighted by a
Markus Stevenson (Voorhees, N.j./Hillcrest Prep (Ariz.) (Angelina College)) layup-and-one to erase a 38-31 deficit and take a 40-38 lead. JCSU's Nenad Milenkovic's three-point bucket at the 12:37 mark put the Golden Bulls briefly on top 41-40 before the buckets from Camper, Blue and then another from Camper pushed the lead back to five. the lead oscillated between two and five points until Blue's layup following a JCSU turnover gave Lincoln a 53-46 lead. Blue would later add a free throw to give Lincoln their biggest lead of the game at 56-48 with 6:24 remaining.
The Golden Bulls came back with a 10-2 run over the next 3:17 to tie the game at 58-58. Milenkovic had eight of JCSU's points during the run.  Both teams then exchanged three-point baskets and
Brendan Wagner's (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic (Manor College)) jumper with 1:47 left gave the Lions a 63-61 lead.  The Golden Bulls scored the next five points to take a 66-63 lead with 31 seconds remaining, capitalizing on two LU turnovers. Neither team would score again until Camper added a free throw with under a second left to make the final score 66-64.Â
Milenkovic led all scorers with 23 points while Austin Nelson added ten.  Aaron Adair and Xavier Jones led JCSU with seven rebounds apiece. Adair also had four assists.
Lincoln had the slight edge shooting-wise making 26 of 60 shots from the field while JCSU made 24 of 60.  The Lions also had a 45-33 rebounding advantage and outscored the Golden Bulls 22-12 in the second-chance points category. However, JCSU outscored the Lions on the free throw line 13-6 as Lincoln made just 6 of 13 free throws while JCSU connected on 13 of 20.
The Lions return to action on Thursday, December 19, 2019 when they host Fayetteville State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
