Lions Fall to Regionally Ranked Broncos in Overtime; Lightsey Scores Career-High 32 Points

Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) scored a career-high 32 points as the Lincoln University men's basketball team gave regionally ranked Fayetteville State University all they could handle before falling in overtime 100-95 at Manuel Rivero Hall Thursday night.

The Lions fall to 2-11 overall and 0-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games.  Fayetteville, ranked #5 in the most recent D2SIDA Atlantic Region men's basketball poll improves to 11-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Lightsey, playing in his first game this season, came off the bench to make 11 field goals, six from beyond the three-point arc en route to his career high 32 points.  The sophomore guard also added three assists.  Lightsey sank four three-point buckets in the overtime and scored all 15 of Lincoln's points in the extra stanza.

Brendan Wagner (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic (Manor College)) added 20 points and seven rebounds while Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) contributed 16 points, six rebounds and two steals.  Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) had 13 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) led Lincoln with nine rebounds and added nine points.

Jalen Seegars had a career high 39 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Broncos who also got solid contributions from Raymon Pratt (21 points, six assists); Isaiah Vinson (17 points, eight rebounds) and Mark Burton (16 points, seven assists).

The Broncos scored the first six points of the overtime to take an 86-80 lead before Lightsey hit the first of his four three-point field goals.  An 8-3 run by the Broncos gave FSU their biggest lead of the game at 94-86 with 44 seconds left.  Lincoln closed within three in the final seconds but could come no closer as the Broncos were a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds, sealing the win.

It was Blue's two free throws with 26 seconds left that forced the tie to send the game into overtime knotted at 80-80.  It was the fifth tie of the game in the final four minutes of the half as neither team could pull away from each other as the half progressed with the Lions leading by no more than six at any one time and the Broncos three.

In the first half, the Lions opened strong, jumping out to an 18-7 lead just six minutes in.  Five different players scored for the lions with camper and Markus Stevenson (Voorhees, N.j./Hillcrest Prep (Ariz.) (Angelina College)) netting five points apiece in the opening salvo.   Consecutive three-point field goals by Seegars however quickly cut the lead to five.  Lincoln's lead oscillated between five and eight points over the next eight minutes until the Broncos used a 10-5 spurt to pull within two 37-35 with 3:25 left in the half.  Lightsey scored the Lions final four points of the half and took a 41-37 lead at the break.

The two teams put up nearly identical statistics as both squads made 32 field goals and 20 free throws; both had 24 points in the paint and ten points off turnovers and the Lions held a slim 40-38 lead rebounding wise.  The Broncos however were the more dominant three-point shooting squad, connecting on 16 long range shots while the Lions made just 11.
