A dominant but well-balanced effort by the Lincoln University women's basketball team gave the Lions their first 2-0 start since the 2014-15 season as they defeated Clarion University 83-37 in the final game of the CIAA/PSAC Challenge at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium. Saturday evening.

Darrell Mosley's squad got production from all 14 players who took to the floor with
DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) leading the way with 15 points (7-9 FG) in just 15 minutes off the bench. Â Â
Shantel Cheeks (Washington D.C./Rock Creek Christian Academy (Harcum College)) added 14 points (6-10 FG) and seven rebounds.Â
Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) grabbed a game high 12 rebounds in her 15 minutes on the court while
Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) dished out a game high six assists to go along with six rebounds and six points. Cheeks and
Joy Morton (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood (Harford C.C.)) led the team with two steals apiece.

Young and Murray were named to the All-Tournament team with Young garnering Tournament MVP honors.

Following a close first quarter where Lincoln scored the first six points but would lead by no more than eight in the final minutes of the quarter, the Lions took firm control of the game, outscoring Clarion 25-5 in the second quarter to lead 45-17 at the half.

Clarion opened the third quarter with an 11-2 run to cut the Lions lead to 19 before the Lions finished the quarter on a 19-7 spurt. Lincoln scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter, holding Clarion without a point until the 1:52 mark and they closed out the game outscoring the Eagles 15-2 in the final quarter.

The Eagles were led by Celeste Ryman's 10 points. Ryman was also named to the All-Tournament team. Clarion falls to 0-2.

The Lions are back in action on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 when they host Cheyney University. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
