Four Lions Reach Double figures as Lions Rout Wolves

Four players scored in double figures as the Lincoln University women's basketball team routed Cheyney University 97-43 in their annual "Battle of the First" game in front of a packed house at Manuel Rivero Hall Tuesday night.
 
The Lions improve to 3-0 with the win, their first 3-0 start since the 2014-15 season.
 
Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) led all scorers with 21 points while DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) and Skydajah Patterson (Bronx, N.Y./) added 13 apiece.  Joy Morton (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood (Harford C.C.)) recorded her first double-double as a Lion with 11 points and 16 rebounds.  Young also had a team high seven steals and three assists.
 
Jsmyra Maye led Cheyney with 21 points while Gianni Hill added 16.
 
Lincoln exerted the defensive pressure early forcing 11 turnovers in the first six minutes of action, The  Lions offense was also clicking on all cylinders, taking advantage of the Wolves miscues , producing a 23-2 lead while making 10 of their first 12 shots.The Lions finished the quarter with a 27-9 advantage.
 
Morton dominated the second quarter grabbing ten rebounds in the period while scoring five points as the Lions extended their lead to 49-26 by halftime.
 
Murray added nine points in the third quarter while Patterson and Young chipped in seven apiece at Lincoln further extended their lead.  Morton scored her final six points and DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the final quarter as the Lions defense held the Wolves to just two field goals in the final ten minutes and cruised to the huge win.
 
For the game the Lions shot 46.2% (36-78) from the field and 65.5% (19-29) from the free throw line.  Lincoln's defense forced 38 Cheyney turnovers leading to 48 Lion points and outrebounded the Wolves 52-39.
 
The women's basketball team returns to action on Thursday, November 14, 2019 with a game at Shepherd University in West Virginia.  Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
