Rodriguez Records 500th Career Save as Lions Fall at Queens College

Senior goalkeeper Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) became the first Lincoln University women's soccer player to record 500 career saves as the Lions lost their fourth East Coast Conference game of the season Wednesday afternoon to Queens College in  Queens, New York.

The Lions fall to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in ECC games.   Queens improves to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Rodriguez, already the Lions career saves leader and the NCAA Division II career leader among active players this season, entered the game needing 21 saves to reach the milestone plateau.   Queens took 17 shots on goal in the first half with Rodriguez saving eight as the Knights jumped to a 9-0 lead.

The saves continued to add up for Rodriguez in the second half as she stopped all but one shot on goal taken by the Knights through the first 35 minutes of the period.  Lena's 500th career save came in the 79th minute off a shot by QC's Victoria Ramirez.

Queens scored twice in the final ten minutes to make the final score 12-0 while Rodriguez notched two more saves to give her 23 for the game and 502 for her career.  It marked the third time this season she has record 22 or more saves in a game.

Nine different players scored for the Knights with Ramirez, Sara Messemer and Agnes Stanton scoring two goals apiece.   Stanton added three assists for a seven-point game while Ramirez had one assist to record a five point game.

The women's soccer team returns home on Saturday, October 19, 2019 to face Saint Thomas Aquinas College for their fifth ECC game of the season. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
