Women's Basketball Team Squares Off Against First Place Bulldogs on Saturday

Bowie, Md.  - The Lincoln University women's basketball team travels to Maryland to face the red-hot Bowie State Bulldogs on Saturday.  This will be the Lions fourth consecutive road game.

 The Series:
Saturday's game will be the 31st meeting between Bowie State and Lincoln. The series dates back tothe 1985-86 season. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series, 20-10.  Lincoln won both meetings last year, beating Bowie State at home 70-64 and later at the A.C. Jordan Arena 55-46.  The Lions have won six of the last eight contests between the two teams.

About the Lions
Lincoln University enters Saturday's game with a 9-9 overall record and a 3-4 mark in CIAA games.  The Lions pulled away in the second half in their last game on Monday, defeating Shaw University, 80-61..
 
Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) has appeared in eight games for the Lions and is averaging 20.1 points per game.  She is second on the team with 25 three-point field goals and is shooting 55.6% from beyond the arc and 51.8% from the field.   Murray is also averaging 7.0 rebounds per game and is shooting 73.3% from the free throw line.
 
DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) is averaging 13.9 points per game.  Young is shooting 44.1% from the field and is averaging 5.2 rebounds per game. She is also leads the team with 29 steals and 46 assists.
 
Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) has 14 blocks while averaging 8.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.  Her 32 assists and 19 steals ranks third on the team.  She has made 16 three-point field goals and is shooting 71.1% from the free throw line.
 
DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) leads the team with 29 three-point field goals and is shooting 33.3% from beyond the arc.  She is second on the team with 20 steals. Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) leads the team with 111 rebounds in 16 games for a 6.9 rebounds per game average.  She also has 12 blocks on the season (third highest on team).
 
Deja Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Temple)) is second on the team with 43 assists while averaging 7.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
 
Last time Out
Jamari Tillman (Louisville, Ky./Doss) and Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) recorded career-highs as the Lions had an explosive second half, outscoring Shaw University 47-27 in the final two quarters to earn an 80-61 win at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium in Raleigh, North Carolina Monday night.
 
The Lions improve to 9-9 on the season and 3-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games.   Shaw falls to 3-12 overall and 0-7 in league play.
 
Tillman scored 18 points, connecting on 7 of 12 field goals including two three pointers.  The freshman guard also had four steals.  Machado added 15 points (5-6 FG, 5-6 FT) and six rebounds.  Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed a team high nine rebounds. 
 
Trailing 34-33 at the half, Lincoln opened the third quarter with a 13-2 run and took a 57-45 lead after three quarters.  The Lions added to their lead in the fourth quarter leading by as many as 24 points down the stretch.  Lincoln scored 27 of their  47 second half points off Shaw turnovers in the final two quarters.  The Lions defense forced 21 turnovers in the final 20 minutes and the Bears finished the game with 28.

Murray Earns Newcomer of the Week Honors
Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Basketball  Newcomer of the Week for her performance during the Lions two games  last week.

Murray scored a total of 43 points in the Lions' two games last week, leading the team to wins over Wilmington University and Shepherd University. She recorded her first double-double of the season vs. Shepherd with 26 points and ten rebounds.

Lions Notch 100
Against Wilmington University on New Year's Eve, the Lions scored 100 points for the first time in program history, defeating the Wildcats 100-65.   In recording a 100-point game, the team eclipses their previous high mark of 96 points, achieved twice, most recently against Wilmington in November 2015 and first reached against Christendom College during the 2000-01 season.
   
Scouting the Bulldogs

The Bulldogs are 15-1 overall and 7-0 in CIAA games.  Bowie State sits at the top of the CIAA north Division Standings and has won 14 straight games.  The Bulldogs are a perfect 8-0 at home.  Their last loss came against East Stroudsburg University on November 11, 2018.

Kyaja Williams leads the team, averaging 13.3 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game.  She also leads the team with 36 steals and 14 blocks .  Williams is shooting 44% from the field and 86.8% from the free throw line.

Pere Alexander is averaging 12.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 30 steals. Alexander is shooting 35.9% from the field and 72.7% from the free throw line.  She has made 15 three-point shots on the season.

Dynaisha Christian is the third Bulldogs player averaging over seven rebounds per game with 101 in 14 games (7.2 rpg.).  She is shooting 50.7% from the field and is averaging 8.0 points per game.
 
Last Time Out for Bowie State
Bowie State's Bulldogs used a 17-4 fourth quarter run to rally and defeat the Fayetteville State lady Broncos 55-51 on Monday night in FSU's Capel Arena.
 
Redshirt senior Pere Alexander paced the Bulldogs with a double double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Chyna Butler chipped in 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists.
 
Bowie State won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Fayetteville State 38-34. The Bulldogs also held advantages in points in the paint (32-22), points off turnovers (16-7), second chance points (7-6) and bench points 21-12. Bowie State finished the contest shooting 42 percent from the field (21-of-50) but struggled at the free throw line, making 10-of-20.
