Women's Soccer Returns Home to Host Chowan Thursday

The Lincoln University Women's Soccer team returns home to Lions Stadium for a non-conference match against Chowan University on Thursday.  This game is a make-up from September 12, 2018.  The 9/12 game was postponed due to Chowan being unable to travel as Hurricane Florence hit the North Carolina coast.

The Series:          Chowan leads the all-time series 8-6 having defeated the Lions both times in 2017.  Chowan has won four straight against Lincoln.   The Lions last win over the Hawks was as 1-0 triumph on September 30, 2015 at Lions Stadium.   Lincoln is 3-4 all-time against the Hawks at home and posts the same W/L mark at Chowan.

 Lincoln Preview:
 
The Lions were shutout for the fourth time this season in their last game, a 9-0 loss at New York Institute of Technology.  Lincoln had four shots on goal in the game.
 
The women's soccer team enters the Chowan contest with an 0-7 record and have lost ten straight games dating back to last season, one shy of the school record for consecutive losses.
 
Junior goalkeeper Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) recorded a career high 17 saves against NYIT and currently leads the East Coast conference with 79 totals saves, averaging 11.29 per game.   Both number also rank in the top three nationally. Rodriguez also became the second goalkeeper in program history to record 300 or more saves, reaching the mark early in the first half against the Bears.
 
Lincoln's offense produced a season high nine shots and four shots on goal in a 7-1 loss to Queens College on September 15.  The match was the Lions' first ever East Coast Conference match as the program was an independent from its formation in 2002 until last season.
 
Senior Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud) leads the team with two goals and an assist in the team's last three games after missing Lincoln's first two contests.   Martinez had unassisted goals in Saturday's loss and in a loss to Salem University on 9/8.  She also added an assist in the loss to Chestnut Hill on 9/5.

Freshman Kenya Davis (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo) scored Lincoln's first goal of the season in the loss to Chestnut Hill putting the ball in the net after Martinez's shot on goal was deflected by the CHC goalie and came right to her for the put back.
 
As a team the Lions lead the league in saves/game, averaging 14.00.  This number is the second highest total in all of Division II women's soccer.

Chowan Preview
Chowan is coming off a 2-0 loss to regionally ranked Wingate on Tuesday on the road to fall to 1-3-0 on the season.

Sabrina Henderson, recently named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, leads the team with five goals. Henderson scored a program best four goals in the win against Southern Wesleyan University.  Carolina Lucci is second on the team with one goal but leads the team with three assists.

Olivia Borer has started all four games in goal and has 21 saves while allowing eight goals.
 
Chowan took a team high 19 shots against Southern Wesleyan as well as Limestone earlier this season and had a team high nine shots on goal against Southern Wesleyan.
