Purnell and Johnson Named CIAA Cross Country Runners of the Week

Lincoln University Cross country runners Nazirah Purnell (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area (Cheyney)) and Kyuande Johnson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) have been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's and Men's Cross Country Runners of the Week for their performances at the Delaware Invitational meet this past Saturday.

In earning runner of the week honors for the second time this season, Purnell ran the fastest time ever by a Lincoln athlete on the White Clay Creek State Park 6,000-meter course, recording a time of 27:30.7, establishing a new school record for the course.   Her time placed her 32nd overall and second among the D2/D3 competitors.    Purnell's race time of 27:30.7 was also the third fastest 6K race ever run by a Lincoln cross country athlete on any course.

Johnson, who is also receiving CIAA honors for the second time this season, was the Lions top runner for the third consecutive week, finishing 16th overall (ninth scoring-wise) with a time of 30:17.0 for the 8,000-meter White Clay Creek course.  He was the second D2/D3 runner to cross the finish line, with division I University of Richmond placing eight runners in the top ten overall.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, October 6, 2018 when they compete in the Cedric Walker HBCU Challenge  as part of the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, North Carolina.
