LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA (October 25, 2023)-The Lincoln University Lions men's and women's cross-country teams are nearing their destinations as the road to the 2023 CIAA Cross Country Championship is finally upon us. The Lions will take to the course of Green Hill Park in Salem, VA on October 26 with the women taking off at 12pm, followed by the men at 12:45pm.
Under the leadership of Head Coach
Roland Whiting, the Lions look to improve on their championship finishes from last season. In 2022, the women finished 4
th with an average time of 21:58, while the men also came in 4
th with an average time of 30:25.
On the women's side,
Kamani Johns (Chester, Pa./Chester) leads the Lions with the season best 5k time of 21:44.9 at the
Greater American XC Festival on October 6. Not too far behind is
Jazlynn Church (Wilmington, Del./The Charter School) with a season best 5k finish of 22:55.6 at the Greater American XC Festival. During the season, Kamani and Jazlynn alternated in leading LU across the finish line. Collectively, the Lions have a women's team average of 23:38.7 in their 5k meets.
On the men's side, Terry McNeil leads the charge for Lincoln with an 8k season best time of 33:16.2 at the Delaware Invitational on October 13.
Michael Amaker (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) is on Terry's heels with a season best 8k time of 33:26.4 at the Greater American XC Festival on October 6. For the season, Michael has been the front runner for LU in every meet. Overall, the Lions have a men's team average of 35:23.2 in their 8k events.
