Lions Begin Conference Play with Contest Against Johnson C. Smith

Lincoln University, Pa. - The Lincoln University women's basketball team opens conference play and starts a four game homestand Thursday night with a game against Johnson C. Smith University.

The Series:
Thursday's game will be the 16th meeting between Johnson C. Smith and Lincoln.  JCSU leads the all-time series 11-4.  The Lions won their last meeting, a 58-52 triumph at the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina in the quarterfinal round.  The Golden Bulls had won the previous three meetings.  The Lions last home win was on Feb. 4, 2015 as Lincoln won 67-51.

About the Lions:
Lincoln University enters Tuesday's game with a 4-5  record after a 93-54 win at Washington Adventist University.   Lincoln is 1-2 at homer and 3-2 on the road with a neutral site record of 0-1. 

Through nine games, DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) leads the team, averaging 13.0 points per game.  Young is shooting 45.6% from the field and 68.3% from the free throw line.  She is also leads the team with 23 assists and 17 steals.
 
Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) leads the team with eight blocks while averaging 11.1 points per game.  Her 78.9% free throw mark leads the Lions and her 18 assists ranks second on the team.   Shakira Edwards (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) is second on the team in free throw percentage (76.9%) and is averaging 9.3 points per game.

Deja Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Temple)) is averaging 9.1 points per game and 3.1 rebuonds per game.  She is third on the team with six blocks. 

Alicia Machado leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 60 in seven games played for an 8.6  She is shooting 51.3% from the field and 93.3% (14-15) from the free throw line.. Jada Queen (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) leads the team in field goal % shoting 53.7% from the field; is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game and is second on the team with seven blocked shots.

Freshman Jada Queen (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) recorded her first collegiate double-double as the Lincoln University women's basketball team placed five players in double figures and cruised to a 93-54 road win over Washington Adventist University Sunday afternoon in Takoma Park, Maryland

Queen scored 13 points (6-11 FG) and grabbed 11 rebounds while also swiping a game high four steals on the afternoon.  Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin (Nyack))  and Jamari Tillman (Louisville, Ky./Doss) also had 13 points apiece, equaling Queen's scoring output for team-high honors.   Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) filled up the stat sheet with 12 points (8-9 FT), nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and a blocked shot.  Deja Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Temple))  the hero of last Wednesday night's win over Shippensburg, rounded out the double figure scorers with ten points.
 
Lincoln finished with 18 steals in the game, their most since getting 23 against Washington Adventist in November 2014. The Lions' 21 assists, 33 total field goals and 11 three-point baskets are also season highs.
 

CIAA Honors for Reynolds, Edwards
Lincoln University women's basketball players Deja Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Temple))  and Shakira  earned Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Basketball weekly award honors for their performances during the week ending December 9, 2018.   

Edwards was named the CIAA Rookie of the Week while Reynolds was named the CIAA Newcomer of the Week.  This week's honors are the second for both players with Reynold's earning Newcomer of the Week honors back on November 21 and Edwards garnering Rookie of the Week honors a week earlier.
 

A noteworthy debut
In the Lions win over University of the District of Columbia on Nov. 14, Alisia Machado became just the third Lincoln women's basketball player in the program's NCAA Division II history to record 17 or more rebounds in a game, joining teammate Shahra Madison (Chesapeake, Va./Norfolk Collegiate School (Chesapeake College)) (19 last season vs. Bowie State (1/13)) and Michelle  Fitzgerald (17 last season at Bowie State (2/7))

 

Lincoln Earns Split in Tipoff Tournament
Lincoln opened their season with a 86-71 win over regionally ranked Kutztown University.  DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) exploded for 31 points in the win while grabbing nine rebounds.  Shakira Edwards (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) added 11 while Jada Queen chipped in ten.

Edwards recorded her first collegiate double-double the next day as the Lions lost to Bloomsburg, 54-47.  The freshman guard had 12 points and ten rebounds.
 

Scouting the Golden Bulls
The Golden bulls are currently 1-5 overall having earned their first win Tuesday night, defeating division I North Carolina A & T  53-50 on the Aggies home court.  JCSU also begins conference play with tonight's game.

Teana Lewis is the Golden Bulls leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points per game.  Denajah Porter has pulled down 52 rebounds in JCSU's six games for an 8.7 average to lead the team while Dejane James leads the team with 17 assists.
 
As a team the Golden Bulls are shooting 31.8% from the field, 26.2% from three-point range and 61.7% from the free throw line.
 

Last Time Out for Johnson C. Smith
The JCSU Women snapped a 5-game losing streak with a win over the Aggies of North Carolina A&T. The Aggies began the game with a 9-0 run to end the first quarter leading 15-9. The Golden Bulls took advantage of a 4 minute Aggie scoring drought to lead A&T by 1, 26-27, 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter. Both teams exchanged baskets before the Aggies fought back to go ahead by 3 to end the 3rd quarter, 39-36.

JCSU's leading scorer Le'Zarea Bowens (11 points) opened the 4th period with a basket to reduce the Aggies lead to 1, 39-38. 4 minutes later, Dejane James put JCSU up for good with a steal and resulting score.

The Golden Bulls improve to 1-5 on the season.
