Lions' Dominance over Cheyney Continues with Big Win over Wolves

Cheyney, Pa. - The Lincoln University men's basketball team continued their dominance over Cheyney University in their annual "Battle of the First" contests defeating the Wolves 93-52 at Cope Hall in Cheyney, Pennsylvania.
 
The Lions have now won the last eight contests against the Wolves, dating back to the 2011-12 season.  Cheyney's last win in the series came on November 26, 2010 when the Wolves defeated the Lions 68-38 at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.
 
Lincoln improves to 4-3 with the win, their third in their last four games.  Cheyney falls to 1-7 with the loss.
 
Five players scored in double figures for the Lions led by Maurice Waters' (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution (Univ. District of Columbia)) 15 points. (6-8 FG). Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) added 12 points, which included a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line while Gevon Arrington (Petersburg, Va./Petersburg (Richard Bland)) chipped in 11 (5-6 FG) and had five rebounds.  Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) and Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) finished the game with ten points apiece.  Blue also had five rebounds.  Green and Arrington had four and three steals respectively while Arrington led the team with three assists.
 
Amir Boney was the lone Cheyney player in double figures with 15 points.  Boney and Rodney Jones led the team with four rebounds apiece.
 
It was the Wolves who started the game with a hot hand, making four of their first six shots, all three-pointers as they jumped out to a 12-6 lead just 6:30 into the game.  The followed with a 9-1 spurt to take a two point lead before the Wolves tied the game at 15-15 on a Zahir Stewart basket.
 
A 19-6 run by the Lions followed as they increased their lead to 13, 34-21 with 2:56 left in the half.  Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) made two three point field goals during the run and Blue capped the run with a breakaway dunk and made free throw, completing a tradtional three-point play.  Cheyney closed out the half with a 9-4 run to xut  the Lions lead to eight 38-30 at the half.
 
The Lions dominated the second half, racking up 55 total points as they put the game out of reach in the first 8:15 of the period, outscoring the Wolves 32-3 to take a 70-33 lead with 11:45 left.  Waters scored all 11 of his second half points during the run while Green added eight to highlight the run.
 
Cheyney never got any closer than 34 the rest of the way while the Lions pushed the lead to as many as 42 (91-49) with just over a minute left and finished the game with the 41-point win.
 
Lincoln shot 45.9% from the field (28-61) and was dominant at the free throw line, making 26 of 29 (89.7%) while Cheyney made just four of nine shots from the line (44%). Both teams shot well from three point range with the Lions making 11 of 24 (45.8%) and the Wolves 8-17 (47.1%).  Lincoln also had a 41-32 rebounding edge and committed seven fewer turnovers (13-20).
The Lions return to action on Saturday, December 1, 2018 when they host Holy Family University at Manuel Rivero Hall.   Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
